Advertising - Colours, Brands and Logos

The Use of Colours in Advertising

Colours play a large role in advertising.   Whether it is the colour associated with the company, brand or logo, the use of colour symbolism, or the emotions they bring out, advertisers use colour to help persuade you to buy their product.

Complete the work sheet.  The first part is a web quest for you to explore and find the answers.

Then use these articles to answer the rest of the questions.

Article #1
http://www.empower-yourself-with-color-psychology.com/color-and-marketing.html

Article #2
http://www.creativebloq.com/branding/amazing-uses-colour-6133196

Article #3

http://www.businessinsider.com/branding-and-the-psychology-of-color-2012-12?op=1

If you are still stuck (for the answers on the back of the page), go to a web quest and search out the answers.

Be sure to keep a list of the advertisements that pop up in your journey.

Once done, you can have some from time on the computers.

War of the Worlds Pre Reading Intro Activity

This exercise is to find out about what is considered to be the greatest media hoax ever, Orson Welles radio broadcast adaptation of "The War of the Worlds."  His radio company, the Mercury Theatre, delivered it on October 20, 1938 as part of the Columbia Broadcast Corporation's Halloween Holiday Broadcast.

There are varying reports and beliefs to what the actual panic and hysteria it caused, but it no doubt did fool many, many viewers.  To learn more about it, we will be reading three pieces and answering some questions on it.

First, read the following article (a news article written the next day - October 31, 1938) and answer the first 7 questions on the worksheet

New York Times News Article

Then got the Wiki Entry on "War of the Worlds" and answer questions 1-8 (use the brackets to know where to scroll down to the proper section to find the answer)

Wiki Entry

Last, go to Orson Welles Wiki Entry to find out a little about the man behind the panic.  Then answer questions 1-4.

Orson Welles Wiki

Then you are done.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to STM; and welcome to D'Angela Thoughts.  D'Angela Thoughts is the world famous blog for all things English based, that occur at St Thomas More, in periods 1, 2 and 5, in classrooms that feature me.

On the blog, you will find information pertaining to what we did in class today, what we are doing tomorrow and what assignments are upcoming.  It is a great tool to keep current in what is happening in class, especially if you are away, will be away or forgot what we did that day.

On the sides of the blog are some useful links as well - etexts of the books we read, grammar and language sites as well as sites that will enhance your enjoyment of what we are studying.   Also, I will use the blog to post assignments, especially in the Media Studies Class.

Scroll down to the bottom to see D'Angela's Brushes With Fame - pictures taken by me.

The blog will be updated every day, or, at the least, every couple of days.  Please use it as another tool to improve your results.
