4U1 ISU List

Posted on the right is the list of already chosen articles.  If you did not sign before the break you can use this list as a guideline of what is taken.  However, it will be first come, first serve after the break - if you work on one (during the break), and someone else is working on the same one, and neither of you signed the list before you left - the first person to sign the sheet after the break gets it, the other person will be out of luck.

Sounds harsh, but you had one full class, and over a week's time to find an article and sign up for it.

BACK TO SCHOOL

Feels like just yesterday it was the end of June.

Well, we're back.

Please utilize and take advantage of the class blog.

3C1 will always be in orange.

4U1 will always be in green.

On the blog, you will find what we did today and what we have for homework that night.

That way, if you are away, it is easy to catch up.  As well, there are e-texts (in the unlikely case you forget your books at school:), suggested readings (to enhance your love of this class:), helpful hints (when writing those pesky essays and studying for texts:) and upcoming due dates (to keep those forgetful ones on the right path:).

The blog is for you (and parents/guardians) to keep aware of what was done, needs to be done and will soon be due.

Use it wisely.  It is your friend.

DAY 3 - ATTACKING THE BASKET

PRACTICE ALL YOUR FINISHES AROUND THE BASKET

-ONE FOOT LAYUP
-TWO FOOT LAYUP
-REVERSE LAYUP
-1 FOOT FLOATER
-2 FOOT FLOATER
-PRO HOP (JUMP OFF ONE FOOT, LAND ON TWO THEN SHOOT)
-EURO STEP

ANDREW WIGGINS

TIPS FOR FINISHING IN CLOSE

1.  HOLD THE BALL STRONG AFTER YOUR LAST STEP
(LOCK IT ON YOUR OUTSIDE HIP)

2.  COVER IT UP WHEN GOING THROUGH THE KEY
(LIKE A RUNNING BACK IN FOOTBALL)

3.  YOU CAN EITHER USE THE BACKBOARD OR SWISH IT IN
(YOU HAVE TO BE SURE WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING - HAVE A PLAN WHEN YOU DRIVE THE BALL)

JAMES HARDEN

DAY 5 - MENTAL TOUGHNESS PART 2

success is not an accident

4.  A MENTALLY TOUGH PLAYER WINS AND LOSES WITH CLASS

-THEY SHAKE THE OPPONENT'S HAND - WIN OR LOSE
-THEY SHOW RESPECT WHEN THEY WIN WITH A REASONABLE LEVEL OF CELEBRATION
-YOU SHOULD BE DISAPPOINTED WHEN YOU LOSE, BUT CRYING ON THE COURT, OR IF YOU FOUL OUT OR IN THE HANDSHAKE LINE TAKES AWAY FROM THE OPPONENT'S VICTORY AND MAKES IT ALL ABOUT YOURSELF

A MENTALLY WEAK PLAYER SHOWS POOR CLASS - WIN OR LOSE

5.  A MENTALLY TOUGH PLAYER IS ALWAYS A GOOD TEAMMATE

-THEY BUILD THE CONFIDENCE OF PLAYERS
-NEVER ISOLATE PLAYERS, MAKE FUN OF TEAMMATES BEHIND THEIR BACK OR TALK BADLY ABOUT A TEAMMATE
-THEY OFFER PRAISE ON GOOD PLAYS AND ENCOURAGEMENT ON A MISTAKE
-THEY DO ALL THIS EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT PLAYING WELL

A MENTALLY WEAK PLAYER ONLY SHOWS ENCOURAGEMENT TO THOSE THEY CHOOSE TO OR WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT

6. A MENTALLY TOUGH PLAYER ALWAYS GIVES THEIR ALL

-WHEN THINGS GET TOUGH, THEY FIND ANOTHER GEAR
-DURING HARD DRILLS, THE END OF GAMES WHEN EVERYONE IS RERALLY TIRED, THEIR EFFORT NEVER

A MENTALLY WEAK PLAYER TAKES IT EASY IF THEY THINK THE COACH IS NOT LOOKING , QUITS WHEN THINGS GET TOUGH AND MAKES EXCUSES WHEN THEY DO QUIT

Heart of a Champion

DAY 4 - MENTAL TOUGHNESS

MENTAL TOUGHNESS - MOST IMPORTANT SKILL ACCORDING TO MOST COACHES

MEANS DIFFERENT THINGS TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE, BUT HERE'S WHAT MENTALLY TOUGH PLAYERS DO:

1.  A MENTALLY TOUGH PLAYER RARELY MAKES EXCUSES:

-FOR LOSING, FOR NOT PLAYING WELL, FOR MISTAKES

THEY ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY AND THINK OF WAYS TO DO BETTER THE NEXT TIME

A MENTALLY WEAK PLAYER MAKES EXCUSES AND BLAMES OTHERS WHEN THINGS DO NOT GO THEIR WAY

2.  A MENTALLY TOUGH PLAYER ALWAYS WORKS HARD

-THEY THINK THAT EVERY PRACTICE IS A CHANCE TO GET BETTER

-THEY ARE THE HARDEST WORKER ON THE TEAM

A MENTALLY WEAK PLAYER IS INTENSE ONLY WHEN THEY WANT TO BE

3. A MENTALLY TOUGH PLAYER ACCEPTS THEIR ROLE ON THE TEAM

-THEY DON'T ROLL THEIR EYES OR POUT WHEN THEY DO NOT AGREE WITH THE COACH

-THEY LISTEN CAREFULLY AND DO THEIR BEST, EVEN IF THEY DO NOT AGREE WITH THE COACH

A MENTALLY WEAK PLAYER LETS THEIR PRIDE AND STUBBORNESS GET IN THE WAY

MENTAL TOUGHNESS

Hustle it up

DAY 2 - PASSING

EVERYONE LOVES TO PLAY WITH A GREAT PASSER!

DO'S FOR PASSING

1.  HEAD UP TO FIND OPEN PLAYER
2.  CHOOSE THE PROPER PASS
3.  STEP INTO YOUR PASS AND FOLLOW THROUGH

BEST PASSES

DO'S FOR CATCHING A PASS

1. CATCH WITH YOUR EYES AND HANDS (AWAY FROM YOUR CHEST)
2. GIVE  A TARGET
3  CUT HARD, EXPECTING A PASS

FINALS PASSING

GREATEST SHOW ON COURT

DAY 1 - BALL HANDLING

BALL HANDLING IS THE MOST IMPORTANT OFFENSIVE SKILL IN BASKETBALL

1. SHOOTING
2. PASSING
3. OFFENSIVE AWARENESS
ALL COME FROM BALL HANDLING

**IT CANNOT BE LEARNED IN SCRIMMAGES AND GAMES**

YOU GOT TO PRACTICE

WHAT TO DO TO GET BETTER?

1. PRACTICE EVERYDAY AT HOME FOR 15 MINUTES

2. DURING DRILLS, DRIBBLE AS LOW, HARD AND FAST AS YOU CAN

(Don't be afraid to lose control of the ball, you only get better by getting out of your comfort zone)

3. HEAD UP, DON'T LOOK AT THE BALL

STEF CURRY CROSSOVERS

NBA DRIBBLING

BLITZ BASKETBALL CAMP

EACH DAY AT LUNCH WE WILL TALK AND WATCH SOME VIDEOS ON THE DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF THE GAME OF BASKETBALL

WE HOPE THESE TALKS AND VIDEOS WILL INCREASE YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE GAME AND GIVE YOU SOME NEW THINGS TO TRY ON THE COURT (GO OUT AFTER THIS AND WORK ON SOME OF THE THINGS YOU SEE)

YOU WILL BE ASKED TO TAKE NOTES FOR AN OPPORTUNITY TO WIN MONEY SHOTS THE NEXT DAY BY ANSWERING QUESTIONS

Wednesday, June 17, 2015

fOR 2d1:

Give the speaker (1), the context (3) and the dramatic purpose (2) for the following:

Wisdom! To leace his wife, to leave his babes,
His mansion and his titles, in a place
From whence himself does fly?  He loves us not,
He wants the natural touch.  (IV,iii,6-)

Since his majesty went into the field, I have seen
her rise from her bed, throw her nightgown upon
her, unlock her closet, take forth paper, fold it,
write upon it, read it, afterwards seal it, and again
return to bed; yet all this while in a most fast sleep.  (V,i,4-)
