EMS 301 - Archetypal Characters in a Hero's Journey

Now that you have looked a little bit at some of the history, compliments and criticisms of Disney, and know a little about the stages of the heroic journey, let's look at some of the archetypal characters we expect to find in hero's journey.

Complete the following in your notebooks.

For each of the following characters, write down:
a) Their name ie The Hero
b) At least two roles they play in the hero's journey
c) And two modern - or historical - examples ie from literature, tv or cinema.

The Hero

The Mother

The Mentor

The Damsel in Distress

The Ally (or Sidekick)

The Fool

The Threshold Guardian

The Villain (or Shadow)

The hero's journey and characters involved are the conventions of a heroic journey ie what we, the audience, expect to see in this type of story

Once you are done, spend some time reviewing your codes ie your technical, auditory, written and symbolic codes

EMS 301

Our culminating Activity will be based on a Disney movie.

So, let's learn a bit about the history of Disney and, to start, look at some of the criticisms people have had about Disney and its movies.
