2D1 Practice quotes for Macbeth Test

Give the speaker (1), the context (3) and the dramatic purpose (2) for the following:

1.  Wisdom! To leace his wife, to leave his babes,
His mansion and his titles, in a place
From whence himself does fly?  He loves us not,
He wants the natural touch.  (IV,iii,6-)

Hint for quote #1, verbal irony is a good dramatic purpose for this one, but why is it verbal irony (be sure to explain that).

Since his majesty went into the field, I have seen
her rise from her bed, throw her nightgown upon
her, unlock her closet, take forth paper, fold it,
write upon it, read it, afterwards seal it, and again
return to bed; yet all this while in a most fast sleep.  (V,i,4-)

Hint for quote #2, be sure you explain the context clearly.

3. Wake Duncan with thy knocking! I would thou couldst! (II,ii,74)

Hint for quote #3, this could reveal character about Macbeth, but what quality or characteristic does it reveal about him, exactly, from what he says in this quote?  Remember, the only time you paraphrase the quote is when you are analyzing the dramatic purpose.

Remember, test is on Monday, bring Mockingbird to read after you are done the test.
